About Tracekit

The story behind the platform and the person who built it.

The Platform

Tracekit started life in 2020 as a Python script — a personal tool for keeping fitness activity data in sync across the growing number of GPS and training platforms that had accumulated over years of riding. What began as a handful of API calls and a cron job has since grown into a full SaaS platform: multi-user, hosted, and built to give athletes real ownership and portability over their data.

The core belief behind Tracekit hasn't changed: your activity data belongs to you, and you should be able to move it, back it up, and sync it however you like — regardless of which services you use today or switch to tomorrow.

The Author

Chris has been collecting fitness data from GPS devices on bike rides since 2009 — long enough to have outlived several platforms and accumulated data in formats that no longer have a canonical home. That itch is what eventually became Tracekit.

Professionally, Chris is a Software Architect at a fintech company, with a career spanning engineering leadership and software engineering roles at startups through to Bridgewater, Salesforce, and Google — all since graduating from Georgia Tech in 2007.
